This page provides the car names originally assigned to Amtrak's 50 production Viewliner sleepers. In 2006, exterior names were being removed from sleepers cars as they came out of Beech Grove overhauls, though for a time, random cars had their name replaced. As of 12/31/08 these cars were reported as having no exterior name. The former name board on the side of the car now just reads "Viewliner 620##." In addition, the striping is being modified to place the red-white stripes along the top of the window area instead of above the fluting between the two rows of windows. One of the prototype sleepers, 2301, was refurbished in 2001, and ran as 62091 until being stored dead in March 2003. Viewliners 2300 (the other prototype sleeper) and 4800 (the prototype diner) were moved to the Wilmington Maintenance facility in October 2004, to be used for shells as new concepts for interiors are developed. 2300 remains in Wilmington, while 8400 has been restored to service as a diner through funding provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The 62091 and 2300, are not presently carried on the active roster.
